Raise your hand if you have ever encountered difficulty while trying to browse a website on your smartphone. Chances are if you regularly use the internet on your phone, you have experienced inconveniences navigating some websites that were clearly not designed for the mobile user experience. In July 2012, Google surveyed over 1,000 adult U.S. smartphone internet users to find out what they most want in mobile sites. According to Google, users mentioned the following features as being important: click to call the business, map/directions to the business and hours of operation. It’s easy to see why these three factors would be important for many businesses and indeed for dental office websites.
In further findings, of the surveyed smartphone users, 67% agreed that “A mobile-friendly site makes me more likely to buy a product or use a service.” In addition, 61% of those surveyed agreed that “If I don’t see what I’m looking for right away on a mobile site, I will quickly move on to another site.” These are important statistics to keep in mind as you consider the mobile-friendliness of your dental office website. Can potential patients find your phone number and location quickly? Are they able to navigate to find the information they need to decide whether to become a new patient? Are potential new patients moving on to the more mobile friendly websites of other local dentists instead?
